Several agencies responded to reports of a man in peril in the ocean off of Butterfly Beach in Montecito Tuesday night around 10 p.m.
Those agencies included the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol, the Montecito and Carpinteria Fire Districts, and the Sheriff's Department.
They located the man in the water, and in a coordinated effort, they got him to shore and performed a medical assessment on the beach.
The rescue site was on the far end of the beach.
The victim was stabilized and carried to a waiting ambulance, then taken to Cottage Hospital.
The extent of his medical issues were not known.
