A man who fell into an apparently abandoned well in the yard of a Ventura County home has been rescued.

It happened at about 1:30 Monday afternoon, on Laguna Way in Simi Valley.  Ron Sparks fell about 20 feet.

Ventura County firefighters arriving on the scene used a ladder truck with a rope tied to it to keep the man from slipping further into the mud-filled hole.

The 87 year old man was rescued in about an hour.  Sparks suffered an ankle injury, but after being taken to a hospital for treatment he was able to return home Monday night.
