A man has received a 50-years-to-life state prison sentence for fatally shooting a skateboarder in Ventura County.  The murder happened in November of 2017, in Newbury Park.

David Smith was riding his skateboard near the intersection of Call Diamonte and Avenida del Platino.  Prosecutors say Caden Crowell fired a shot from his car at the skateboarder.

The 19-year-old Thousand Oaks man was fatally wounded, and died at the scene.

The Camarillo man pled guilty to first degree murder for the killing, leading to Monday’s sentencing.
