Highway 101 in Agoura Hills is completely open again Wednesday morning, after a plane crash on the highway shut down parts of it for nearly 10 hours Tuesday.
A World War II vintage trainer had engine problems just before two p.m. yesterday, and the pilot made an emergency landing on the westbound 101 near the Liberty Canyon turnoff. The plane touched down safely, but when the pilot tried to avoid a vehicle, it crashed into the center divider and burst into flames.
The pilot was able to get out of the single engine plane unhurt. No one on the ground was hurt.
The eastbound lanes of the freeway reopened by mid-evening, but it was around midnight by the time all of the westbound lanes reopened. It took some people more than two hours to work their away around the closure. The plane was a single engine T-6 trainer based at Van Nuys airport.
