Some compost piles burning as a result of the Maria brush fire in Ventura County could smolder for a few more days. The fire began last Thursday, and while it forced thousands of evacuations during its first few days it’s now 95% contained.
The fire has charred nearly 10,000 acres of land. It started on South Mountain, and burned towards the Santa Paula, Somis, and Saticoy areas.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames in rural areas, and out of neighborhoods. The compost fires are within established containment areas, and don’t pose a new threat. They are hoping for full containment of the blaze by Friday.
