Firefighters are in the mopup phase of a brush fire burning in the hills just north of downtown Ventura.
The blaze broke out just before 2 p.m. Friday. There was initially concern about the direction of the fire. The fire burned down a hillside near some homes in West Ventura, but firefighters say they weren’t directly threatened.
The blaze charred more than ten acres of land, but it hasn’t been mapped for exact acreage yet. Air tankers and helicopters were used to stop the spread of the flames. But, by four p.m., the air tankers were released with the growth of the blaze stopped.
