Facing The Flames; Residents Of One Ventura County Neighborhood Talk About The Experience

Some residents in a Santa Paula neighborhood took to their roofs with garden hoses to try to stop embers from the advancing Maria brush fire

It’s been a nerve wracking week for tens of thousands of people in Ventura County who became evacuees as a result of mandatory evacuations due to the Easy, and Maria brush fires.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco was in a Santa Paula neighborhood Friday afternoon when hundreds of people were ordered to leave because of the surging Maria fire.

Firefighters were able to stop the flames, but for hundreds of residents of the neighborhood it was an experience they will never forget.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
