COVID-19 Spike Continues On Central, South Coasts As Well As Across State

The spike in new coronavirus cases on the Central and South Coasts continues.  268 additional cases were reported in the region Tuesday.

Ventura County had 140, Santa Barbara County 54, and San Luis Obispo County 74.  The latest numbers push the three-county total since the start of the pandemic to 35,277.

Two additional deaths have been reported in the region, both in Santa Barbara County.  The additional deaths mean there have been 135 deaths in Santa Barbara County, 175 in Ventura County and 35 in San Luis Obispo County.

The three counties remain in the state’s most restrictive purple reopening tier.  Restaurants have once again been forced to shut down indoor operations, but they can still operate outdoor service, as well as takeout service.

Statewide, four more counties have been pushed backwards to the most restrictive purple tier, which means 45 of the state's 58 counties are now in that category.

California reported more than 15,300 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours.  Hospitalizations in the state are up 81% during the last two weeks.
