COVID-19 Safety Concerns Prompt South Coast College District To Cancel Fall, Winter Sports

A South Coast college district has pulled the plug on all of its fall and winter sports events because of COVID-19 safety concerns.

The Ventura County Community College District decision affects more than a half dozen sports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball.

The body which oversees community college sports in California pushed the fall and winter sports to the spring, with the hope conditions would improve enough to allow competition.  The district's decision affects athletic programs at Ventura, Oxnard, and Moorpark colleges.

The fate of spring sports at the three colleges is still undecided.   The spring season includes baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s track and field.
