A South Coast agency is moving to cut down on air pollution by helping to pay for the replacement of some older diesel engines used by the agricultural and fishing industries. The Ventura County Air Pollution Control Board approved $4.4 million dollars in grants.
The money will be used to help replace 72 diesel engines used for agriculture, and by commercial fishing boats.
It’s estimated that by replacing the engines, 44 tons of ozone related pollution will be eliminated, as well as 2.6 tons of diesel particulates.
Ventura County doesn’t currently meet national air quality standards for ozone pollution, so this is part of efforts to improve the region’s air quality.
