Agency Focused On Early Childhood Development In Santa Barbara County Gets New Executive Director

An agency which works to help create healthy children in Santa Barbara County has a new executive director.

Wendy Sims-Moten is the new head of First Five Santa Barbara County. Sims-Moten is familiar with the post, because she has been serving as its Interim Executive Director, and before that was the organization’s Business Manager.

Since it was founded in 1999, the non-profit has distributed more than $65 million dollars to programs which support the health and development of children in the county.

Sims-Moten fills the vacancy created by the departure of Ben Romo, who left the top post at First Five in March to manage the County’s efforts to help Thomas Fire and flood victims.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
