Mopup work continues on a brush fire which threatened a Ventura County neighborhood.
What's being called the "Country" Fire began Thursday afternoon in a canyon near Via Colinas in Westlake Village. The neighborhood has hundreds of town homes. Wind pushed the smoke over the neighborhood, stoking fears the homes were at risk. Residents were asked to evacuate the area.
Helicopters and air tankers spearheaded the attack on the fire, and were able to help stop the spread of the blaze. Firefighters held the fire to 28 acres burned. People were able to return home before sunset Thursday.
Investigators questioned some teens in the area of the fire, but there’s no official word yet on what started the blaze.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury. No homes were destroyed or damaged.
