Three Arrested In Connection With Sexual Assault Charges At Ventura County Care Facility

Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives say a former assisted living facility employee, and two of its managers have been arrested following sexual assaults on two elderly residents.

Investigators say the attacks occurred October 15th at Royal Gardens of Camarillo.  They say Joel Gonzales sexually assaulted an 82 and a 90 year old woman.  But, authorities didn’t learn of the incidents until nearly three weeks later, when a relative of one of the victims reported it.

Detectives and State Department of Social Services investigators launched an investigation.  They say they documented the attacks by the 24-year-old Camarillo man.

The investigators say they also discovered staff members had reported the attacks to Royal Gardens management, but the two managers failed to notify authorities.

The two officials were arrested on charges of failing to report the crimes.  The state suspended them, and is now overseeing new management of the facility.  Gonzales is facing sexual assault charges.
