Vote Counting Continues For Tight Congressional Race In Ventura, Los Angeles Counties

The California Secretary of State’s office has issued its first update on the vote count since last week in a close congressional race for a seat serving parts of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, and it shows little change.

Republican incumbent Mike Garcia has a 405 vote lead over Democratic challenger Christy Smith for the 25th District Congressional seat.  That’s up five votes from the last update on Friday.  The vote counting continues.

Last week, Garcia declared himself the winner.  Smith said it was still too close to call, and refused to concede.  The current vote count shows Garcia with 50.1% of the vote to Smith’s 49.9%.

The district is mostly in Los Angeles County, but includes a slice of eastern Ventura County.
