Stranded Kite Surfer Rescued Off South Coast

(Santa Barbara Fire Department photo)
A kite surfer was rescued after becoming stranded in the ocean off the Santa Barbara coastline Sunday.

A kite surfer was cold, and exhausted but is otherwise okay following an ordeal in the ocean off the Santa Barbara County coastline.

The man was kite surfing off of Santa Barbara Sunday afternoon just east of Arroyo Burro Beach when he apparently ran into trouble, and went down off the board.  Some witnesses saw the man was in trouble and called 911.

The Santa Barbara Fire Department sent rescue swimmers to the scene, and the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol sent a boat.  The man was pulled from the ocean.

The man told rescuers he thought he was in the water for about an hour.

He was checked out by paramedics onshore, and didn't require hospital treatment.
