Police now say a man shot to death following a car chase, and confrontation with officers in Ventura County had a loaded pistol with him.

It started at around 7:30 Thursday night in Oxnard.  Oxnard Police officers saw a man driving a car who was a suspect in a shooting.  But, they say when they tried to stop him, he sped away, and headed into Ventura.

Ventura Police took over the pursuit.  Officers deployed spike strips to try to stop the car near Seaward Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.  It worked.

Ventura Police say Javier Magana of Thousand Oaks got out of the vehicle, and was fatally shot during a confrontation with officers.  Department officials say they expect to release bodycam video of the incident next week.
