Authorities Identify Man Shot In Confrontation With Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies

Authorities are now identifying a man who was seriously wounded in a confrontation with Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies.

Detectives say Austin Manzano called 911 early Sunday morning, and threatened to shoot people in a Camarillo neighborhood unless deputies were sent to the scene immediately.

Officers arriving on the scene say the 24 year old Camarillo man was armed with a knife, and what appeared to be a handgun.  They say he refused to drop the weapons, and advanced towards them before he was shot.

It was later determined Manzano had a replica of a handgun.  He remains in critical condition at a hospital.

The two deputies involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is routine procedure in situations of this type.
