Police Say Man Armed With Gun, Knife Shot In Confrontation With Officers In Ventura County

A man investigators say was armed with a gun and knife was shot, and critically wounded  in a confrontation with Ventura County Sheriff's deputies.  It happened just after one Sunday morning.  Dispatchers say a man called 911 and said he was suicidal, but that he had a gun and was going to shoot people in a Camarillo neighborhood.

Deputies arriving in the area of Calle La Somba and Bradford Streets say they enountered a man in the street with a knife and a gun.  The man was still on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, who tried to get him to surrender.  But, the situation escalated and deputies fired multiple shots, seriously wounding the man.

The 24 year old man is from Camarillo.  His name hasn't been released.

As is usual practice, the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on leave pending  investigations.  The Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office are both conducting investigations.
