Man Arrested For South Coast Murder

There’s been an arrest in a South Coast murder.

Rogelio Lara was shot to death Sunday morning, in Oxnard.  Police were called to the 3500 block of South Harbor Boulevard, where they found the 48 year old man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.  Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say they identified an Oxnard man as a suspect in the killing.  But, they didn’t have to go far to find him.  Gabriel Cortez was already in custody in Ventura County on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.

The 23 year old man is now also facing a murder charge.  Investigators aren’t saying what they think was behind the murder.
