Third Arrest Reported In Connection With Gruesome Central Coast Murder

There’s yet another twist in the unfolding story of the murder of a man whose dismembered body was found in a Central Coast golf course’s lake.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives say they’ve made a third arrest in connection with the death of Joseph Martin Govey.

Benjamin Mersai was arrested Monday as he was golfing at the Nipomo course where Govey’s remains were discovered.  The Grover Beach man is being held without the possibility of bail.

Detectives say Govey was murdered in late 2018, but the Santa Maria man wasn’t reported missing until 2019.  They still aren’t saying what they think led to the killing, or to the trio of arrests in the case.  A Santa Maria man and woman were arrested last week in connection with the death.
