Ventura County Woman Dies After Vehicle Plunges Off Cliff In Car Chase

A Ventura County woman is dead, after the car she was driving plunged over a cliff while she trying to flee from law enforcement officers.

It happened early Wednesday morning, with the chase beginning in Oxnard and ending with the crash in Moorpark.  Oxnard Police spotted a speeding car just after one a.m.  They suspected they were dealing with a DUI driver.

They started to chase the car, but officers dropped the pursuit saying the driver was driving recklessly, and endangering the public.

A short time later, CHP officers spotted the vehicle on Highway 118 in the Somis area. They picked up the chase, following the car into Moorpark.

But, officers say the car failed to make a turn on White Sage Road, near the Highway 23 overpass.  It plunged 200 feet down a cliff.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  The name of the 23 year old Oxnard woman hasn’t been released yet.
