A brush fire is burning in the hills just north of downtown Ventura.
The blaze broke at just before 2 p.m. Friday. There was initially concern about the direction of the fire, but Ventura County firefighters say it is burning away from structures. No homes are threatened.
The blaze has charred about 10 acres of land, but has the potential to grow to about 100 acres. Air tankers and helicopters have been used to stop the spread of the flames.
