Sentencing Hearing Underway For Confessed "Golden State Killer," Who Murdered 13 In State

“He truly is an evil monster.”

That’s one of the many comments from crime victims during a sentencing hearing underway in Sacramento for the man known as the “Golden State Killer,” responsible for 13 murders, including six on the South Coast.

Joseph James DeAngelo pled guilty to the killings, as well as dozens of sexual assaults.  He’s set to be formally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.  But, victims, and families of victims have their chance to confront the now 74-year-old man before he is sentenced.

His crime wave during the 1970’s and 80’s included four murders in Goleta, and two in Ventura.
