Brush Fire In Ventura County Chars 1200 Acres, But Firefighters Make Some Progress

Firefighters say they made progress Monday night in efforts to contain a 1200 acre brush fire in a remote area of eastern Ventura County.

The Holser Fire started just after 2 Monday afternoon, from a vehicle fire near Lake Piru in the Holser Canyon area.  The heat and the rugged terrain  in the area allowed it to quickly mushroom in size.  A evacuation center was set up in Fillmore, at Fillmore Middle School.

Some homes were initially threatened, but firefighters were able to protect them.  The fire burned northeast, away from Piru.  Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze.

With mild overnight conditions, crews tried to make progress towards containment of the blaze before the return of predicted sizzling temperatures Tuesday.
