Ventura County Man Headed To Prison For Government Bribery Scheme

A Ventura County man is headed to federal prison after admitting he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to get some business contracts with Los Angeles County.

Enrique Contreras of Newbury Park was sentenced to two years in state prison.  Prosecutors say he paid two Los Angeles County officials $600,000 to get contracts for his Antelope Valley based electrical company.

The 40-year-old man pled guilty to a federal bribery charge, as well as one count of tax evasion.  In addition to the prison sentence, Contreras was ordered to pay more than $800,000 in restitution.

The two Los Angeles County officials involved in the scheme also pled guilty to bribery charges, with one sentenced to prison and the other awaiting sentencing.
