Firefighters have the upper hand on a brush fire that closed a section of a highway in Ventura County.
The blaze is burning in the Grimes Canyon area between Moorpark and Fillmore. Because it's burning in rugged terrain, air tankers and helicopters were used to stop the spread of the fire, which was discovered shortly after one p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters say the blaze could potentially blacken about 20 acres of brush before it's fully contained. The fire closed Highway 23 between Moorpark, and Fillmore.
No structures were threatened. There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Santa Barbara County firefighters knocked down a three acre blaze north of Buellton Tuesday afternoon. The fire burned brush just off the Highway 101/Highway 154 interchange. No structures were damaged.
