Firefighters hope to have full containment Thursday night of a more than 400 acre brush fire which at one point threatened homes, and closed Highway 101 on the Central Coast.

The Avila Fire started Monday afternoon southeast of Avila Beach.  It jumped Highway 101, closing it for several hours.  Some homes in the Pismo and Shell Beach areas were threatened.

Firefighters aided by aircraft were able to protect homes, but one structure was damaged.  The fire stands at 445 acres burned, with 90% containment.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
