Confirmed Coronavirus Case Total On Central, South Coasts Tops 2400; Cluster Found At Ag Facility

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases on the Central and South Coasts has topped the 2400 mark.

The total stands at 2406.  Santa Barbara County has 1402 cases, but county officials say that nearly 900 are linked to the federal prison complex in Lompoc.  Ventura County has 764 cases, and San Luis Obispo County 240. 

No new coronavirus related deaths have been reported, with the current total at 37 for the region.  There have been 25 deaths in Ventura County, 11 in Santa Barbara County and one in San Luis Obispo County.  Most are linked to older residents with pre-existing health conditions.

Ventura County Public Health officials are investigating what may be the largest cluster of new coronavirus cases in the county.

Nearly three dozen new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in connection with a commercial produce packing facility, which has about 120 workers.  All of the employees at the facility have been going through the testing process.

The county isn’t identifying the facility.  The say they have the situation in check.

Meanwhile, County Agricultural Commissioner Ed Williams says they have testing available for agricultural workers, who are considered essential personnel.  There are testing sites at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, and the Newbury Park Library.  The County is also making masks available for agricultural workers.
