Some Central, South Coast High Schools Take Unique Approach To Celebrating Graduation

The coronavirus crisis has definitely put a dent into high school graduation plans on the Central and South Coasts.

One high school district in the region is taking a unique approach to its response.

Four schools in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District will hold virtual graduation ceremonies during the first week of June.

But then, the ceremonies will be followed by drive through events, where students will be able to cruise into the parking lots of the various schools. That's where the actual diplomas will be distributed.

To make sure traffic jams aren’t even worse than expected, each graduate will be limited to one vehicle, so it doesn’t turn into a parade for each individual.
