Police Investigating Blatant Daytime Mailbox Theft On South Coast

Police are investigating an unusual mail theft on the South Coast. Someone broke into a mailbox on a Santa Barbara street, and stole everything except for a single envelope. It happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, on the 400 block of East Canon Perdido Street.

The mailbox was last emptied Monday afternoon.

So, police are cautioning anyone who might have used it to keep an eye on checking accounts and other financial information for possible fraud linked to the stolen mail. The USPS is planning to replace the mailbox with a newer, more secure model.
