Graduation Ceremony Still Up In Air, But Central Coast High School Distributes Caps and Gowns

Caps, gowns distributed at Pioneer High School in Santa Maria Tuesday.

Graduation ceremonies have been cancelled, or are still up in the air at many high schools on the Central and South Coasts. There’s optimism at some Santa Barbara County high schools that some type of event might happen. Santa Maria’s Pioneer High School passed out caps and gowns Tuesday.

It was a drive through event, with volunteers placing the graduation items on the back seat, or in the trunks of vehicles to maintain social distancing. The items include lawn signs showing that a home is that of a graduate. At the least, the items will be available for families to celebrate at home.

Righetti High School is planning a similar distribution event for May 8th.

No decisions have been made at Santa Maria and Delta High Schools yet.
