A Santa Barbara County man is behind bars on vehicular manslaughter and other charges following a traffic collision which left a bicyclist dead. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Calle Real and Violet Lane in Goleta Sunday night by reports a cyclist had been hit by a passing vehicle. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their name hasn’t been released yet.

Deputies say the driver didn’t call for help, and fled the scene. Officers say they tracked the 20-year-old man to Isla Vista. Nicholas Baker of Goleta was arrested for driving under the influence, hit and run causing injury or death, and involuntary vehicular manslaughter.

During the investigation, a Sheriff’s Office patrol car parked at the scene of collision was hit by a passing vehicle. No serious injuries were reported.
