A South Coast library system is planning a major expansion. The Goleta Valley Library is going to add new satellite services for Isla Vista. Plans call for the library to buy a cargo van which will be converted into a mobile library.
It will offer services like reading events and story time for kids. The van will operate in Isla Vista 40 hours a week.
Book vending machines, and book drops will be added around Isla Vista. And, ten mini libraries will be set up in places like apartment complexes.
The two year pilot project is being made possible through $200,000 in state funding secured by Democratic Assemblywoman Monique Limon of Santa Barbara.
