South Coast Non-Profit Which Helps Feed Those In Need Seeing Spike In Demand Due To Coronavirus
The coronavirus crisis has left thousands of people on the Central and South Coasts out of work.
In Santa Barbara County, a non-profit which deals with those in need on a regular basis has seen a spike in requests for food.
Santa Barbara’s Unity Shoppe serves thousands of families monthly who were already struggling to make ends meet. But, the coronavirus crisis is made it worse, with many people with low-paying service jobs suddenly out of work.
Tom Reed, who’s the Unite Shoppe’s Executive Director, says they are seeing triple the number of people seeking help that they would normally have this time of year. He says the non-profit is rapidly going through its food reserves, and is seeking help from its supporters.
