Efforts Underway To Set Up Relief Funds For Coronavirus Impacts on Central, South Coasts

Coronavirus is doing much more than creating a health risk for the Central and South Coasts. It’s creating a financial one as well.  Tens of thousands of people in the region are already being impacted by things like business shutdowns or cutbacks. Now, two foundations on the Central and South Coasts are organizing relief efforts.

Vanessa Bechtel is with the Ventura County Community Foundation.  The foundation helped spearhead relief efforts after the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and the Hill and Woolsey Fire.  But, this crisis has the potential to cause more widespread problems.

Bechtel says they aren’t sharing support yet.  But, she says people can pre-register now.  There are three portals on the Ventura County Community Foundation website:  One for individuals and families, one for non-profits, and one for small businesses.

The Santa Barbara Foundation is also in the process of setting up aid.  It’s starting with efforts to assess the need, and is working with the United Way.
