Two Arrested For What Authorities Say Was Gang Related Killing On South Coast

Two men have been arrested for what detectives are calling a gang-related murder on the South Coast. Pete Mendez was in a car in El Rio January 11th when it was hit by gunfire coming from another vehicle. The 31 year old Oxnard man was fatally wounded, dying a short time later at a hospital.

Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives, the Sheriff’s Gang Unit, and Oxnard Police detectives worked on the case together. This week, they arrested two Oxnard men for the killing.

Alfonso Islas and Fher Ortega have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, and murder for the benefit of a gang.
