Cal State Channel Islands Shifting To Online Instruction To Cope With Coronavirus

Cal State Channel Islands has joined the list of major universities which is transitioning from traditional to virtual classes as a result of coronavirus.

It will start out as a voluntary program, and transition to a mandatory one. Cal State Channel Islands officials say they haven’t had any cases of coronavirus on campus, but are making the move now before it could become an issue.

The plan calls for instructors who are able to do it to shift to online classes at the end of the week, and continue to do them that way until the start of Spring Break March 20th.

Classes will resume April 6th, but at that point will be completely online through May 1. University officials say they are trying to work out ways for students to continue their educations if they have classes which aren’t practical for online presentation.

The university is planning to keep all of its facilities open during the planning process for the transition. UC Santa Barbara announced a similar plan earlier this week.
