New Details Released About South Coast Murder; Attack Was Car To Car

Authorities are releasing additional details about the murder of a man driving in a car in Ventura County. The shooting happened January 11th, in El Rio. Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives say Pete Mendez was in a car when someone in another vehicle fired a volley of shots. The 21 year old Oxnard man was hit.  He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives say they think the murder was gang related, but haven’t established a motive for the killing, or whether the victim was actually being targeted. They’re looking for potential witnesses, or people who may have heard those involved talking about the shooting.
