Project To Repair Brush Fire Damage Closing State Highway In Santa Barbara County

The Cave Fire along Highway 154 in November of 2019

A normally busy state highway in Santa Barbara County is going to be closed from Wednesday night to Thursday night, so repairs can be made to fix damage caused by a wildfire. Caltrans is closing Highway 154 between Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The work is intended to repair damage caused by last November’s Cave wildfire. One of the biggest projects is to improve drainage, because surveys of the burn area show that strong rainfall could flood sections of Highway 154.

The highway closure will stop through traffic from Highway 192 in Santa Barbara to the Highway 246 roundabout in the Santa Ynez Valley. San Marcos Pass residents with identification are being through the roadblocks.

The Cave wildfire burned about 3100 acres of land, but thanks to the efforts of firefighters no homes were lost.
