Plans are in the works for a public memorial service later this month for NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. The tentative plans are for a February 24th event at Staples Center, the downtown Los Angeles arena where Bryant played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers. There’s no word yet on time, or whether tickets will be made available to the general public.
Staples holds more than 17,000 people. There is a Clippers basketball game set for that night, so the memorial could be a daytime event. Holding the event on the 24th has special symbolism, since he wore the number 24 on his jersey for much of his career.
Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, and seven others died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas January 26th. A preliminary report by federal investigators on the crash is expected in the next few days. But, a determination of the cause of the accident isn’t expected for more than a year.
