Ventura County Man Convicted In Connection With Printer Ink Fraud Scheme With 50,000+ Victims

A Ventura County man is among seven people convicted of conspiracy, and mail fraud in what federal prosecutors say was a decades old multi-million dollar fraud scheme.

A federal jury in Santa Ana Friday convicted Jonathan Brightman of Westlake Village, and six other defendants.

Prosecutors say the 52 year old man owned Copy Com Distribution, Independent Cartridge Supplier, and Corporate Products.

Federal investigators say the way the operation worked is that they would pose as the regular supplier of printer toner to small businesses and charities, but then sell them the supplies at inflated prices.

Prosecutors say there were more than 50,000 victims, going back as far as 1988. The total losses during one six year period alone are estimated at more than $126 million dollars.
