Some Evacuations Ordered In San Marcos Pass Area of Santa Barbara County Due To Brush Fire

The Cave Fire prompted some evacuations in Santa Barbara County Monday night

A highly visible brush fire on the South Coast has burned more than 15 acres of land in the Santa Ynez Mountains, and forced some evacuations.

What's being called the Cave Fire started just after 4 p.m. Monday, in the East Camino Cielo area.

It's the rugged mountains off of Highway 154.  The fire appeared to be pushing west, along the top of the mountain range.  At least some of the fire is burning on Los Padres National Forest land.

Santa Barbara County officials ordered mandatory evacuations from Highway 154 east to Ontare Rd, and from Foothill Road up to the top of East Camino Cielo. An evacuation warning was issued for Highway 154 west to Fairview and Ontare East to Gibraltar Road.

The remote, rugged terrain and dry fuel is making the fire difficult to reach. But, the wind is expected to ease moving into Tuesday.
