A former campaign advisor for President Trump made a splashy official entry into the race for a congressional seat representing parts of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. George Papadopoulos made the announcement he’s seeking the 25th District seat on a network morning show Monday.
He says he’s entering the race because Republicans have been losing ground in the state because they aren’t sticking to basic party platforms.
Papadopoulos was a former foreign policy advisor for Trump. He made news in 2017 when he entered a guilty plea to a charge he lied to the FBI in connection to the Russian election interference investigation. He served a 12 day federal prison sentence.
Democratic Congresswoman Katie Hill resigned earlier this month after allegations surfaced that she was having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. She denied the charge.
Several candidates are already in the race, including Steve Knight, the Republican incumbent who lost to Hill in 2018.
