Art Collection Donated To South Coast University

One of the nearly 60 paintings donated to Cal State Channel Islands by the family of a Camarillo nurse who passed away earlier this year.

The family of a Ventura County nurse who died unexpectedly this year decided they wanted to do something special with a large art collection she assembled over the decades, and has donated it to a university. Cherie Nedderman collected nearly 60 outdoor paintings of Southern California done by various artists between 1905 and 1965.

The 71 year old Camarillo woman died during a heart procedure in January. Her brother decided to give the collection to Cal State Channel Islands, so other can enjoy the works.

University officials say the paintings are currently in storage with plans being made for an exhibition featuring some of them later this fall. The landscapes and seascapes will also be used for art classes.
