Huge Plume Of Smoke Visible On Central Coast, But Source Is A Controlled Brush Burn

A brush fire sent up a huge plume of smoke on the Central Coast Tuesday, but unlike other recent blazes, it was one which was completely planned. Tuesday was the first day of what’s intended to be a three day, 550 plus acre burn in central Santa Barbara County, southeast of Los Alamos.

The prescribed burn on private land is intended to reduce the risk of future wildfires, by removing some old growth fuel. If weather conditions continue to cooperate, the burn will continue from 8 a.m. to sunset Wednesday and Thursday. The smoke from the burn is widely visible on the Central Coast.
