Man Wanted For Arizona Murder Already Behind Bars On Central Coast

A man wanted for murder in Arizona was already in jail on the Central Coast when he was arrested this week. Tucson, Arizona police have been looking for Preston Scruggs for a January, 2017 killing. Detectives say Scruggs and another man were caught on a surveillance camera entering a motel room. They were later seen leaving.

When the room was being cleaned the next day, the body of a man was found under the bed. One man confessed to the killing, but investigators say evidence points to Scruggs as the other person involved.

Detectives obtained DNA evidence from Scruggs, who is in the San Luis Obispo County jail. He was then arrested on a murder charge. After he finishes his sentence for carrying a concealed weapon and parole violation charges in San Luis Obispo County, he will be taken to Arizona to face trial.
