High Brush Fire Conditions In Forecast For Central, South Coasts; Power Shutoffs Possible

Firefighters on the Central and South Coasts are keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, with strong wind creating the potential for elevated brush fire conditions for the next few days. The forecast prompted Southern California Edison to announce there could be scattered public safety power shutoffs in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

The strongest wind for our region is expected for tomorrow and Saturday nights, with 30 to 50 mile an hour wind possible for the mountains. Some of the strongest wind could be in southern Santa Barbara County. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the county for Friday through Sunday.

The areas in Edison’s potential Public Safety Power Shutoff area in Santa Barbara County include Carpinteria, as well as unincorporated areas outside of Gaviota, Montecito, and Summerland.

In Ventura County, some customers on the outskirts of Ventura and Simi Valley could be affected, as well as off of Highway 33 in the Los Padres National Forest.
