High Wind Could Return To Santa Barbara, Ventura Counties; Power Shutoffs Possible

Potentially dangerous wind is going to be returning to the Central and South Coasts, and it could lead to some planned power shutoffs later this week. Strong wind is expected in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles Counties Thursday through Saturday.

On Saturday night, wind hitting 60 miles an hour is possible in the Santa Ynez Mountain range, creating increased brush fire concerns.

Southern California Edison officials say they are looking at potential precautionary power shutoffs for about 6600 customers in Santa Barbara County. It could include parts of Gaviota, Mission Canyon, Montecito, and Santa Barbara. Those shutoffs could extend from the foothills of Santa Barbara into the city’s downtown area.

The wind concerns are expected to shift south Sunday and Monday, with Santa Ana winds possible for Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
