Wendy Fire Continues To Grow In Ventura County, But Moving Away From Homes

(Ventura County Fire Department photo)
The Wendy Fire has burned about 50 acres of brush as of 8:30 p.m.

A brush fire discovered shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday has burned more than 50 acres of brush on the south side of the Conejo Valley.  The Wendy Fire is burning south of Newbury Park, into an open space area away from homes.

Flames from the fire are visible throughout the area.  Ventura and Los Angeles County firefighters are using helicopters equipped to fly at night to battle the blaze, because it is in a rugged, hard to reach mountain area.

National Weather Service officials say it's headed towards Point Mugu State Park.
