Eight Year Old Boy Dead, Mother And Daughter Hurt Following Accident Near Ventura County School

Police are trying to figure out what led to a traffic accident outside of a South Coast elementary school which left a child dead, and a mother and daughter critically injured. The accident happened Monday morning near Oxnard’s Ramona Elementary School.

Oxnard Police say a van driven by a 17 year old girl had just dropped off some kids at the school. It hit the three people at the intersection of Cooper Road and Anita Avenue. The eight year old boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mother and her eight year old daughter were critically injured.

The boy was apparently a neighbor of the mother and child, and was walking to Cesar Chavez Elementary School with them.

Oxnard Police say the van’s driver stopped at the scene. The three victims were in a crosswalk, but it’s one without a stop sign. Investigators are looking at the possibility the rising sun may have been in the driver’s eyes.
